Muddy Buddy Race Phoenix AZ Dec 09 First leg of the race watch Jeff Cameron Ride

December 18, 2009 By Jeff Cameron

My buddy JT and I showed up a little late and we walked around the crowd taking some video. We joined the 4th group out. This video is the 1st leg of my ride of 6 parts. I used my Go Pro helmet cam to record the whole race. Watch for more postings of different segments. I can’t wait to edit the Mud Pitt!

I hit the road hard pushing to pass people, but quickly noticed I need to learn how to race. This is only my second race ever and its been 2 years since the last one. Plus I am about 30 pounds heavier, YUCK! Last time I made the mistake of having a camelback and pulling the straps too tight. Once my heart started racing, the straps kept my lungs from expanding. This time I drank a power drink and water on the drive to the race. I brought another water and power drink with me and realized I had no place to put them, so down the hatch most went. When I first started the race I was pushing and could not understand why I was gaging. I noticed my stomach was full of liquid and crowding my chest area, so I could not expand my lungs fully.  You see, normally I don’t drink or eat anything before riding. I consume enough at dinner that a ride is needed just to  burn it off. So, drinking all that water and power drink action was out of my norm!

I used my new helmet cam, Go Pro, and because of the mud I had it in the water proof container. This made the sound very muted.

I hope you all enjoy this video, I have several others to post from this event. Next year I am doing it again, but 40 pounds lighter!!!!
